THE BOAT & THE STORM
LUKE 8:22-25
“Now it happened, on a certain day, that He got into a boat with His disciples. And He said to them, “Let us cross over to the other side of the lake.” And they launched out. But as they sailed He fell asleep. And a windstorm came down on the lake, and they were filling with water, and were in jeopardy. And they came to Him and awoke Him, saying, “Master, Master, we are perishing!” Then He arose and rebuked the wind and the raging of the water. And they ceased, and there was a calm. But He said to them, “Where is your faith?” And they were afraid, and marveled, saying to one another, “Who can this be? For He commands even the winds and water, and they obey Him!””
There is a need for each of us to separate and detach ourselves from the crowd and to get into the boat. We are to enter into our boat of rest, regardless of any impending storm
• Jesus in the boat automatically made it a safe refuge in spite of how the disciples felt
• The boat is our incubators of peace and rest for us to recharge in order to face the next challenge
We are to take our rest from the place of calm and transplant it into the place of the storm.
Isaiah 55:11-13
“So shall My word be that goes forth from My mouth; It shall not return to Me void, But it shall accomplish what I please, And it shall prosper in the thing for which I sent it. “For you shall go out with joy, And be led out with peace; The mountains and the hills Shall break forth into singing before you, And all the trees of the field shall clap their hands. Instead of the thorn shall come up the cypress tree, And instead of the brier shall come up the myrtle tree; And it shall be to the LORD for a name, For an everlasting sign that shall not be cut off.””
IF WE FAIL TO TRANSLATE THIS TIME OF PEACE INTO OUR EVERYDAY LIVES THEN WE HAVE FAILED IN THE PURPOSE OF THE REST GOD HAS FOR US.
• We come out of the place of stress
• Enter into the place of peace
• To take the peace back into the place of work to bring peace
When the New Year began I was extremely excited as I felt it would be a year of great victory and a year of fulfilled promises. However, the year seemed to be a continuation of 2017, with storms lashing from every side. For self preservation I jumped out of the boat to try swim to the shoreline, and it was in the battering waves that I felt the Lord’s hand pull me back into the boat. A dear friend spoke into my life and after this I received a fresh realization of what the Lord needed me to accomplish for His kingdom. It was said through this by my friend that what had taken place was not a mistake but a realignment.
I encourage each of you to climb back into the boat if you have jumped overboard or to remain in the boat if you have been contemplating jumping. It’s the season of realignment that will produce our victories through Christ.
Keep the vision burning before you and write these words where you can see them everyday: I WILL NEVER QUIT!!!
With much love,
Colin
